Igor Riečanský studied medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the Comenius University in Bratislava, while completing semester scholarship stays at medical faculties in Naples and Vienna. He continued his doctoral studies in neuroscience at the International Graduate School of Neuroscience, Ruhr-Universität Bochum in Germany, where he dealt with the neural processes of visual perception (supervisor Prof. Klaus-Peter Hoffmann). He completed clinical training in psychiatry at the Department of Psychiatry of the Slovak Medical University in Bratislava and attended courses at the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London. He was active as a visiting professor, lecturer and researcher at the Faculty of Psychology of the University of Vienna (SCAN-Unit, Prof. Claus Lamm) and now is teaching at the medical faculties of Slovak Medical University and Comenius University. He is heading the Department of Behavioral Neuroscience since the establishment of CEM SAS in 2018.
